Is that motor hooked up to a dyno of some sort?

 

Lol nah... just a rednek stand used to break the cam in. It's just a motor, radiator, exhaust and the necessary guages. It's much easier than doing it the car because you can see all around to check for leaks. That and the car is not ready for the engine, it's just a shell. However it would be nice if we did have a dyno though.

 

wow. that's actually a good idea. I'll have to see if I can toss together something like that. I'm finishing up an engine for my girlfriends olds next weekend.

 

Yeah, we bought an engine dolly from, I think, Harbor Freight for like $40. We had cut and fab the back of the dolly for header clearance. Create something for the radiator, mount the guages, fan switch, and ignition, and we propped the front on some wooden blocks to keep it from vibrating away. Fairly easy doing all that. It's much more secure than trying to do it on an engine stand too and I'm sure you could probably buy a little dolly that would already have enough clearance for everything.

That's slick. You used an engine dolly you say? I was thinking i'd make up one of these soon, once I get a better welder. Some cheap angle iron is all i'd need. Bolt it up to the engine mount area, and the back BH bolt area.
Does it move much? I mean, with wheels on the bottom?
I found many (many) leaks on my engine, so I sure wish I had done this...

 

my machinist has a nice one.. it was originally a generator with a 454 on it.. he tossed all the generator stuff, kept the perfect internal 454 and made a mounting plate for the rear of the motor.. it has a MASSIVE radiator so its "cool".. no pun intended.. lol.. its pretty damn heavy duty with the huge I-beams and all..

but yours is a nice little setup..

 

My old high school auto shop teacher had his blown 350 on a roll around test stand and it didn't go anywhere. He used a fitting to hook a garden hose right up to the water pump, made a mess but the engine ran cool lol Had maybe a 1 gallon fuel tank, fuel pump, gauges, key ignition and battery mounted to the test stand.

 

It doesn't move very much. After breaking it in and starting it up a few times it only vibrated over a very small amount.

Dynomax had a very nice setup at the YearOne Experience. Mine's just cheap and easy to use, so it's all good.
