No, you need a distributor with vacuum and mechanical advance.
What engine? What Holley? What transmission? Why?

Re: Carb Swap
Hi there, You will need to replace the distributor to a HEI (vac advanced) one.
You will also need to find away to lock up the TTC when driving and you will need the T.V cable corector bracket/cable mounting bracket.
What Holley do you have?
EDIT: Five7kid beat me to it.

Re: Carb Swap
The stock distributor depends on the ECM to advance the timing, which in turn depends on sensors on the stock carb which aren't on your Holley.

You have too choices: 1) Too little advance, or 2) Too much advance.
Still haven't heard an answer to the "why" question. As in, why did you change it?

No, you'll either have too much timing, leading to detonation and eventual engine damage, or too little timing giving reduced performance, worse mileage, and early plug fouling.

Re: Carb Swap
nup you need a HEI distributor or the car will run like a slug, I don't think they are very expensive and they are very easy to install.
1: Unplug/remove the old distributor (make shure you know where the rotor is pointing).
2: Insert the HEI one into the engine with the rotor at the same direction as the old one (alowing for the screw style gears). ADD: also you MUST make sure you slip the key (in the bottom of the dis shaft) into the oil pump slot or you will have big problems.
3: hook up the 4 wires (has what wire goes where on the distributor).
4: Start car and set timing to 6* advanced.
EDIT: Ok this time Apeiron beat me to it... damn im slow today.

Re: Carb Swap
just run a ported vacume line from the carb (metering block) to the distributor.
What i mean by screw gears is the gear on the bottom of the distributor the gears are screw like so when you remove it the rotor will turn like 1/8th of a rotation so before you remove it note what exact direction it is pointing and when the newone is installed make shure it is in the exact same point or you will be 1 tooth out on the cam gear (you will see what I mean when you remove the stock distributor).

EDIT: :S you edited you post after i replyed......
LOL oh well.
Any GM V8 pre 1982 (I THINK).
