ok here's the deal i'm 18 years old and bought my 1986 camaro when i was 15. Before i bought it my uncle owned it and the car sat for 6 years in a driveway being started every once in a while. I did minor work on the engine(Oil change, Plugs, Wires, and other minor tune up stuff(It's a 305 5.0L 4Bbl). Anyway A couple months ago i started getting less mileage but i just thought it was my very bad driving habits. But lately i've been getting really really bad mileage around 5-8(i know, That's impossible is what everyone tells me) anyway i have cleaned the carb really well and replaced vaccuum lines but nothing helps. I talked to a friend and he said if it was shooting black smoke out the exhaust then it was the choke(My air/feul ratio guage reads very rich when car is driven a little) I looked at my choke and when the car is off it is open and doesnt seem to do anything once i give the car gas. I've replaced fuel,air,and oil filter as well as the oxygen sensor with no relief. I am very mechanically inclined but have no knowledge of how to fix this. Please HELP!!! If I Can't Fix This soon i am gonna be broke

 

Whens the last time youve changed the oxygen sensor? I would replace that. Did anyone mess with the mixture settings on the carb?

 

How does it run? Check for flooding from a dirty needle and seat, sunken float, or leaking well plugs.

 

wouldn't it stall if it got flooded? I missed the part about him not rebuilding the carb

 

Depends how badly its flooding.
