TBI to Carb info
i have a 1990 camaro RS with a 305 engine.
i wanna get rid of all that crap that comes with that TBI and just have a nice carb
how difficult is it to change to the carb?
and what kind of stuff would i need to get to get it completed.
and what is a good size of carb to get?
i heard a 650 CFM would be just good.
if you can let me know that would be great.

I actually just did the swap. It's actually very easy. I already had a carb intake on the car so that made it even better. Basically what you'll need is something like an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, a non computer controlled distributor, which I found a sweet one on JEGS for 135 I believe. It's their street/strip performance HEI. Good bang for the buck. Then you'll need a carb, and preferably some steel braided line and a 3 port afpr. There's a good write up on all of this in the tech section also.
I went with a 650 on my setup, only because I've already done heads, cam, headers, and full exhaust. Every cfm calculator will tell you to go with a 575 on a 305. I wanted one that would peform well on a 305 and 350 down the road. If your setup is stock other then the carb, I would stick with 575, unless you plan on a 350 in the future and power adders to the 305. It will be overkill other wise.
You could have this swap done and running in 1 day.

Re: TBI to Carb info
Or you could run the 650 and use the downleg boosters to make it work properly. There is some good tech out there on how to do this. I've never done it so you may want to sniff around on here for other's advice before buying a massive carb and trying to make it work. Theres a thread something like "No Carb is too big" or something that details how to overcarb an engine and get away with it, not only get away with it but make power both low end and on top as well...
