Rough idle and rough acceleration from 1800 rpm up

I've got a 305 around 150k with a holley dominator intake manifold, 670fm street avenger carb, k&n 14in filter, non electronic distributor, and new spark plug wires. car idles rough and tends to chug. acceleration is normal only between 800 and 1800 rpm after that acceleration is very hesitant and the car shakes like a bull. i know that my intake setup is way too much for a 305 but it has run fine for about 15-20000 miles with that setup before this happened. i think the air/fuel mixture is too rich because there seems to be gasoline on the intake manifold. i know i need to be schooled on tuning my carb among other things. anyone with any ideas please help.

Re: Rough idle and rough acceleration from 1800 rpm up

sounds like a timing issue. What did you touch on the car to cause this problem to start happening?

some colder weather hit and thats when it seemed to start, I'm thinking it was a gradual thing i was just too busy to notice or something.

Re: Rough idle and rough acceleration from 1800 rpm up

its definitely got fuel, would too much of it screw it up that bad? don't have the tools or know how to check the timing. i found threads on how to check it on a stock car, but mine has had the cpu unplugged since the new distributor went in. i could use a play by play for my setup

Re: Rough idle and rough acceleration from 1800 rpm up

hook up the timing light, put it on the #1 plug wire and point the light at the balancer, that's it. Should be 8-12 at idle with a carb motor typically with the vaccum can unhooked on the distributor

Re: Rough idle and rough acceleration from 1800 rpm up

CHANGE YOUR SPARK PLUGS.And adjust your timing. If that dont work you have a killer vaccume leak.
