A few problems that may or may not have anything to do with the carb

Ok, I have an 85 Z28, its got a carbed 305, with 270k miles.

The first problem it has is that it will sometimes idle at 600RPM, and sometimes up around 1200 or more. I dont know what could be causing this.

Sometimes, when I go to accelerate, it acts like its not getting enough fuel past 2500 RPM, and is VERY slow to accelerate past that. Then, a few miles later, its fine.

Two night ago, its pouring down rain, and I had just left the house, and driven about 1.5 miles. I went to come out of a corner and accelerate, and wouldn't you know, the thing just starts stalling out. I pushed the clutch in, and I floored it, it didnt matter. I rolled it into a near by neighborhood, and I pulled off the air cleaner, I played with the throttle linkage, and I could see fuel squirting in. I pulled off a spark plug wire, did a spark test, it had spark. The car wouldnt start though. Lucky for me I knew someone that lived in the neighborhood and they said it was OK to leave my car there over night. Some friends of mine and I pushed it to our neighbor's house, and left it there. The next day it started right up.

Also, my Check engine light comes and goes.

Step 1, get the trouble codes.

I checked there, do I need to pull the plastic piece off to find it? If its suposed to be right next to the fuse box, then I dont seem to have one.

Above your right shin/knee when you're sitting behind the wheel. You have to pull a small plastic cover off to get to it.

Check it now. The codes are stored for something like 50 starts after being set. If you wait, it may clear.

Sounds like the module in the distrbutor.Take it out have it tested.Make sure when they test it they get it hot.If not it could show that its good but you have the same problem.

That sounds like the choke high idle cam not fully disengaging (when at 1200 RPMs).
