Carb ID

Just purchased my first F Body. What carb did it come with and how can I ID it? I need to replace the inline filter.

Choke Plate

My choke plate is what I believe to be open too far when cold. What should the air gap be and how is it adjusted?

Re: Choke Plate

QJet, I assume?

When overnight cold you open the throttle to unload the choke linkage and allow the choke to set (close). It should snap fully closed.

As soon as the motor fires the vacuum break on the front/pass side of the carb will retract and open it slightly to prevent it from flooding out. When it opens the choke plate you should be able to just barely fit a 1/8" drill bit between the choke airhorn and the back of the choke plate by standing it straight up against the inside of the choke airhorn.

This is a rough good starting point and you can make adjustments from there. Adjustment is done by turning the screw on top of the arm sticking out of the vacuum break. Clockwise is richer (less choke opening), CCW is leaner (more choke opening).

Re: Choke Plate

Not sure what carb it is. I have a thread up for some help w the ID. This carb has a elec. choke. adjuster (round assy) on the right side. I moved it ccw and plate now adjusted. How do you adjust the fast idle cam?

Re: Carb ID

if your car is stock like mine then you should have a Rochester e4me. Here's a pic of mine and link to moderators diagrams https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...-diagrams.html

Re: Carb Manual

Sticky at the top of the forum has most of the pertinent stuff you need. There are several other good manuals for the quadrajet but unfortunately most only have a small section that deals with the computer controlled version (assuming that's yours). You'll find more info than you need here. somewhere..

I can point towards some specific threads if you'd like.

Let's put these all together so we're not bouncing around trying to answer your questions. You can track the answers by matching the Subject lines.

Stock carbs didn't come with in-line filters. They have an inlet filter, which is a different thing. Which does yours have?

I have found the sticky at the top of the forum to be very valuable. It has stuff that doesn't apply to our cars, but everything for our cars is in there.

Re: Carb ID

Does your carb look exactly like scooters picture? (except dirty, obviously?)
Then it's the stock CC Q-jet.
If you buy a rebuild kit for $30 it'll come with some handy spare parts, and instructions on how to set up certain things, like choke settings, etc.
