When are you running rich, at idle or at cruise?

The idle mixture screws on the base of the carb will set the idle mixture. Don't just blindly start twisting them to try to lean it out. Get a vacuum gauge and do it properly.

I believe we'd have to know exactly which carb you have. The location of the idle mixture screws is different on Holleys than on q-jets or Edelbrocks.
