Stuck in fast idle
86 camaro 305 auto cc carb. When I start it up the butterfly closes to where it is suppose to be but now when it warms up the butterfly does'nt go straight up anymore.Ihave to lift the part next to the green piece then the butterfly flips open.Do I just need to spray it with gumout where it's sticking? Also if I want to adjust the fast idle do I turn the screw before I start it cold or adjust it when I first start it up within the first 15 or so seconds.I need to slow it down it's to high 3000 rpm do I turn it cw or ccw to slow rpm down. I wish I could tell you the names of the pieces but I could'nt find the thread that list it Thanks

Re: Stuck in fast idle
Start by hosing down the linkages, exterior, and throttle bores with carb cleaner.
Re: Stuck in fast idle
Adjust the screw immediately after a cold start. Somewhere around 1500 RPMs should be plenty on a cold engine.
Also, don't be surprised if the choke element in your carb is just old and worn out. The bimetal spring lasts forever but the electrical heating element does not. Yank the wire, check for Ohms to ground between the terminal and the carb body. If it's significantly over 20 ohms (room temperature cold- not hot, not freezing) it's toast and needs replacement.

Spec for high idle is 2200 RPMs on the highest step when warm.
If your linkage isn't binding, you probably need a new choke thermostat.

Re: Stuck in fast idle
I sprayed everything down I can manually push the fast idle cam to get the idle to slow down but as soon as I give it some gas it flips back the butterfly closes and it goes back to high idle. When you say choke thermostat is that the spring in the black housing. Can you give me any instuctions on how to replace that? Thanks

Re: Stuck in fast idle
That's what it's supposed to do for the first couple of minutes after a cold start. After that, kicking the throttle should let the choke open.

If the thermostat has ever been removed, you won't have to drill out the pop rivets (unless it was pop riveted back in place - typically self-tapping screws are used).
