surging

i think i have a carb problem with my computer controlled quadrajet on my 86 camaro. no engine mods. but when i stomp on it say from a stop sign, or when i reach high rpm if i have it floored, the car struggles and surges. i know i am running rich, could i be flooding it? it feels like it is not getting gas, or maybe it is getting much too much and not reacting like it should. never had this problem before. when i say it struggles and surges, it like for split seconds on and off will seem like its about to stall. can anyone put some light on this subject for me?

Very typical of q-jets.

The secondary air valve (AV) is opening too soon. The opening is controlled by two things: The vacuum dropping at WOT releasing the choke pull-off; and the adjustment of the air valve tension spring. The sticky in the top section of this forum on the E4ME instructions tells you how to adjust the AV tension. The choke pull-off is two screws and a vacuum hose to replace.
