Confused about throttle cable brackets...

There are millions of throttle cable brackets for Holleys... but I want a nice billet bracket like this.

What's confusing me is the kickdown bracket.

I was going to buy one of these:

Does that take the place of one of these things?

Or do I need to buy both? Do I need to buy a bracket with a TV cable provision or as long as I have the second thing I liked is that enough?

Im just confused about what all exactly I need to make sure the TV cable will work.

Re: Confused about throttle cable brackets...

The top pic isn't a bracket; it's the piece that bolts to the carb linkage that the center of the cable hooks to. You NEED that.

The other piece, I'm not too sure of. That looks like a bracket. However, not knowing what Holley you have, I can't guess whether it's the right one or not.

Given that it's ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to the continued existence of your transmission, I'd recommend you move "working right" to the top of your priority list, and "looks" to somewhere near the bottom. Screw what it "looks" like if it doesn't work right. Get the right thing and be done with it - billet or not.

top carb bracket doesn't include provisions for the kick down cable. You'd need to buy a bracket with the setup like in the 3rd pic. That 2nd pic is needed to be bought as well. IIIRC holley sells both a throttle cable bracket for 700R4 along with that 2nd pic.

Re: Confused about throttle cable brackets...

There is no "kick down cable".

The top pic IS NOT a bracket. It is a linkage piece.

The top pic is the piece that bolts to the carb linkage (it moves). Note the little ball stud for hooking the cable to.

The bottom piece is the stationary one that bolts to the intake manifold. It sits still and holds the housing. Note the swuare hole with the notch.

You need both. The top one, for sure; and some variation of the bottom one, maybe that one or maybe not, that will locate the cable housing within range of its adjustment.

The Holley bracket costs like twice as much as all the others....

CSR sells this for much cheaper:

But judging from the respoinses, I still need that bracket linkage up there.

But I just want to make sure I get everything I need.

on a TH350 it would be a kick down cable, for a 700R4 it would be the line pressure whatever, either way that top pic ( click the link) does NOT have the provision for a second cable.

HLY-20-95 $19.95

bracket with provision for kickdown cable or 700R4 throttle valve whatever cable

Re: Confused about throttle cable brackets...

*shakes head in disbelief*

The Holley 20-121 IS NOT a "bracket"!!!!! No matter what word the Jeg's web page has on it. It is the piece that bolts to the carb, on the bottom of the throttle lever, and MOVES when the throttle is opened. It even has the little ball stud sitting right there in plain sight, where the cable inner hooks up to, so that it cannot be mistakenly identified as a "bracket". It CANNOT be replaced by the CSR bracket, the Jeg's bracket, or by either the Summit or the TCI bracket. It MUST be bolted to the carburetor linkage, on the side of the carb; and then some actual BRACKET, which could then be the CSR or the Holley or the Summit or the TCI or the Jeg's or even a certain GM one, must be bolted to the intake manifold.

I'm not sure what this about about "second cable" is supposed to be. There IS NO "second cable" for a 700. There is only one: the throttle valve cable. Its housing clips into one of those brackets, and then its center hooks onto the ball stud on the 20-121. Not rocket science.

You need to connect the cable end, and you need to hold the cable housing. For a Throttle Valve cable (the originator has a TH700R-4), the pictures in the original post do those functions, respectively.

You need the top picture "LEVER" to correct the geometry for the TV cable where it connects to the throttle arm.

Whether you use a BRACKET that holds both of the cable housings, or whether you use two BRACKETS to get that done is up to you.

top line:

click the word "this"

Also I see your attitude shown in several threads like this...I do not appreciate it at all.

the first cable would be the throttle cable....the SECOND would be for the trans.

not rocket science right?

You are making this much too complicated over one simple word - "bracket".

Just get over it and understand that the geometry corrector is a necessary item when you go with an aftermarket carb vs. a factory throttle set up.
