New engine, when put in gear it dies.
Ok, so heres a short story of my problem (Lets rephrase that I have many problems with this car and here is one or two of them.)
Well I was assembling my engine with an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold only to realize that when on the engine the ports are wayyy to small for my heads. I have the Edelbrock Victor Jr 23* Cyl heads. Slightly ported and port matched to an intake, but I am not sure which intake so that is one of my problems. Well, I put the intake on regardless cause i needed to get the car running. I put silicone around the whole intake to prevent vacuum leaks. I start up the engine and it sounds like the car is supercharged. There is clearly a HUGE vacuum leak. It was running and driving though (remember this.) So I hooked up a Snap-on Smoke machine and smoked the whole system. It is leaking from the intake manifold to the heads as i suspected. I put a little more silicone on where the smoke was coming out and that put a bandaid over the vacuum leak until i get over to the speed shop and get a bigger intake. Well now I have the car running at about 1200RPMs and when I attempt to lower the Idle so i could do the timing the car dies. It doesnt stumble then die, it just flat out dies. Well, I attemped to move it into the other bay at the shop and with my foot on the brake and the gas the car died. It didnt even give me a chance to kinda give more gas, it just DIED. again, no stumble, not a warning, the second it is in gear its DEAD.
If you recall me saying that it was running with the vacuum leak, i think that might be a major hint to my problem. I am thinking MAYBE it is too rich and the vacuum leak was compensating for it but when i fixed the leak it just is getting too much gas.
The engine is a 388 and it has a BG Speed Demon 750cfm VS Electric Choke. I cant set my timing cause i cant get it to idle low enough... 1200RPM is too much. I have a Fuel pressure guage, but it is the screw in type and i have no where to screw it into so i need to get a T fitting to run it in my rubber lines. I have a mallory AFPR and i set it somewhere in the middle but i know that isnt good enough.
What should I start with tommorow??
P.S thank you for reading if you have gotten this far, i really appriciate any help i can get.

find your vacum leak, even if it means putting all new hoses on the engine, having a bad vacum leak is alomst as bad as being 180 out on the crank, id start by buying some vacum hole plugs, plug every hole off and see if it runs, if it does, add your brake booster line, if it still runs add you vac. advance line, if that dont fix it check your carb gasket/flange..........could it be that you are running a sqaure/spreadbore on a spreadbore/square intake? maybe the gasket is bad...........sounds like its sucking air somewhere though

Keep reading man, I temporarilary fixed ALL vacuum leaks and CHECKED them with a smoke machine, If you are not familiar with the machine, it basically plugs into a vacuum hose and "smokes" the whole system if there were any other leaks i would see smoke coming from that spot. So all leaks are fixed.
Thanks for the advice though.

Re: New engine, when put in gear it dies.
Ok, update. So yesterday I also hooked up my MSD 6a box and forgot to tell you guys that cause i didnt think it had anythng to do with the problem. Well today just for ***** and giggles i disconnected it. And immideatly it idled lower and I was able to put it into gear without any hesitation or dying. So my MSD box was the cause of this problem...
