engine and carb performance

alright im a bit of a younger mechanic and all of my mechanic buds are pontiac haters so i dont get alot of information from them. but first i have an 85 trans-am and i cant tell if its an LG4 or the L69 v8.

second. iv been told that by putting in wind blockers around the the radiator so that more air is forced through the radiator will cause the radiator to run cooler and in turn will cause the engine to run at a steady 168 degrees and allowing for more power. iv tried it and iv actualy gotten a big boost and it couldn't all be caused by the fact that i actualy sliced the blinker in half and made runners for more easy cold air flow to the carb.
note; my heat sensor went out so im stating engine temp from other supposed tester

To determine what engine was installed in the car by the factory, check the 8th character of the VIN. "H" = LG4, "G" = L69. The odds are it's an LG4.

The primary physical identifier is single vs. dual snorkel air cleaner (or snorkel and hood scoop for some 'Birds).

The engine can't run any cooler than the thermostat installed. The factory used a 195 degree F thermostat, so simply increasing the cooling flow to the radiator won't cool the engine.

By the way, the car might have Pontiac badges on it, but the engine is a small block Chevrolet.

Re: engine and carb performance

he kind of set me strait on the radiator thing. he told me wat realy happens when the more cooler air is forced through the radiator which allows the engine fan access to cooler air which in turn helps in keeping the engine cooler.
