Re: carb rebuild

I just rebuilt one, first carb in ~15 years and it works It was kinda hard but not that bad. Here's what worked: go to parts store and 1) buy gallon of stuff to soak your parts in (might also use an oil changing pan to soak large parts in for 24 hrs or so). I used Berryman's gallan can, was ok, left a thin oil film that could preserve parts. you could spray off every bit of carb soak/cleaner left by using Berryman B12 spray can. 2) order a carb rebuild kit and float. look for number stamped on your carb: 17084#### and parts can order right one. Sorenson was ok, will use AC/DELCO kit next time. instruction page lists parts in order to take off and put on in reverse order. 3) you might want to buy a books from e-bay (look up Rochester Quadrajet E4ME, that's the carb original on your car). 4) search on this forum for keywords like rochester, ccc, or e4me; I learned a lot that way. 5) at parts store buy a little metal ruler that goes down to 1/64th of an inch. 6) take your time and you'll probably need to make a parts stand for your carb. 7) after building a Haynes book can guide you through tune up steps in chapters 4 and 6, but not on rebuilding an E4ME, oh ya 8) take pictures of your vacuum lines and label them to help replace them just like they were first connected
