4th gen tank---direct fit???

could not find a better place for this.. I'm carbed and it's in the fuel system.
Anyway ist it a direct fit or more involved than dropping the old and installing the plastic???
I'm looking at the ease of installing a -12 bulkhead fitting(or 2) in plastic over steele and i can get one ALOT cheaper than a 15gal fuel cell.

Re: 4th gen tank---direct fit???

From what I remember reading on here somewhere, it is a direct bolt-in deal, or at least very very close to it. Are you only upgrading because you want a different fuel line fitting? If thats the case, it would probably be easier to have a steel tank cleaned and have a bung welded on so you can use the AN fitting of your choice - easier with steel than plastic w/o getting leaks IMO. Though the plastic fuel tank has its benefits for sure, like the fact that it does not corrode, and IIRC is also baffled inside, which is good - especially if you will be doing any kind of racing.

Drag car.. the teflon seal fittings from Earl's like what are in fuel cells are not prone to leaking....if the tank has good flat surfaces to install in. never actually laid eyes on one. But the cost is Way lower than a fuel cell and cant be that much more weight....less than a steel tank anyway. I'll be puting a -10 return in on top somewhere also.

It straps in like the 3rd gen tank, but that's about where the similarity ends.

The fill tube is a different length. You can cut the hose and mount it, though.

V6 & V8 fuel pumps are different, as are the lines to/from the tank (which I only vaguely understand). LT1 and LS1 tanks are different. The fuel level sender is a different type/resistance than 3rd gens (in some applications - again, fuzzy on the details, know for sure it's true with LS1 tanks).

The fuel pump and sending unit are integrated.

If all you want is a -10 fitting, it would be much, much easier to sump a steel 3rd gen tank.
