THERE WERE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS LONG BEFORE THERE WERE COMPUTERS CONTROLLING CARS. YOU MAY NEED A PRESSURE REGULATOR FOR IT, BUT I THINK YOU'LL BE OK WITHOUT IT. HOWEVER, THAT MAY NOT FIX YOUR PROBLEM. SOUNDS LIKE MAYBE YOU ARE LOSING THE PRIME FROM THE BOWL.
CHECK THE MECHANICAL PUMP YOU HAVE NOW BY TAKING THE LINE OFF OF THE CARB AND HOLD IT OVER A CONTAINER TO CATCH THE FUEL. HAVE SOMEONE CRANK THE ENGINE AND SEE IF YOU ARE GETTING FUEL RIGHT AWAY. IF YOU DO, THEN I'D SAY LOOK AT THE CARB. A 2 BBL ISN'T TOOO HARD TO REBUILD AND LAST I CHECKED, A KIT IS PRETTY INEXPENSIVE.

Shouldn't have any problems. My '88 has had a small shock tower mount electric fuel pump on it ever since i've owned it. Never had any problems with it and my '88 also has the !PCM mod. I belive mine is wired directly in with the ignition as is the electric fan...

It sounds like RodRob is on the right track. If pumping the accelerator helps get it started, then you are probably looking at a carb problem and not a pump problem. Once you get the truck started--but before its warmed up--does it run OK?

Sounds like a choke problem to me.

Re: just a stupid qurstion i am sure

low press. fuel pumps & regulators are out there , rebuilt carbs are pretty cheap . carbs , the old ones ( like me ) are easy to re-build . THE ONLY STUPID QUESTION IS THE ONE THATS NOT ASKED . good luck .
