Ancient Holley metering block gasket removal
Help I am rebuilding my Holley 4777 and the old gaskets are really stuck on the blocks , main body and bowls . I have scraped a Holley clean years ago , but it took forever . Is their an easier way ? .Soaking in some sort of solvent ?. Will a machine shop have some way of cleaning ?. This carburetor's gaskets are stuck badly . I feel that if I wear to scrape it clean , I would damage the carb with deep gouges and scrapes.

There are spray gasket remover products available as well.

Try real dip type carb cleaner instead of spray.

And find a plastic scrapper if you are worried about damaging the block.

plastic ice scraper for doing windshields, i like the small handheld ones and some carb cleaner or gasket remover that has been sprayed 3-4 times and let sit for an hour or so.

Re: Ancient Holley metering block gasket removal
Just bought a can of the real dip , I think it will work . In the metring block their are some plastic float stop or over flow reads . I do not know what they are . Will the come in the rebuild kit . I will end up breaking them trying to get them out . Is there any plastic on the throttle shafts .

Re: Ancient Holley metering block gasket removal
The plastic part you are talking about is the bowl vent. No need to break them, just remove the pin that holds them in. You'll have to get that out to replace them anyway, but no need to even replace them if they aren't brittle. They are there to stop sloshing fuel from going out the vent openings on the top of the carb.
