Re: Vats With Carb
just converted mine to carb and just leave the ecm hooked up and the vats will let the starter crank, I left my ecm connected and it works fine.
Good luck

Re: Vats With Carb
Actually you don't need to keep the ECM to allow the system to crank the engine. You do need to either bypass the VATS module, or leave the VATS module alone.
VATS had two ways to disable the theft of the car.
1. Disable the cranking of the starter. This was accomplished by putting the VATS system inline with power to the starter solenoid. This acts just like a neutral switch with the car not in neutral.
2. Disable the injectors so the engine does not get fuel. This was done with the ECM getting a signal from the vats module allowing the ECM to fire the fuel injectors.
In your case, you are using a Carb now, so the ECM is out of the picture as far as Vats is concerned. You can of course, leave the ECM if you like, but it won't matter.
As for the VATS module, you could bypass that, but it's easier to just leave that alone. It will work just fine.
I just finished a Carbed engine install in my son's '89 Camaro with VATS. The ECM is laying in the basement and doing nothing. I left the VATS module alone and didn't do anything special to bypass the VATS system, the car starts and runs fine.
