i need some help here. i changed from a tbi to a carbed v8. i used the tech article on here and used the mallory fuel regulator in the article. it will start and run for less than a minute and then it dies. i used a fuel pressure gauge on the carb side of the regulator and it will have an initial spike and then drop back to zero. it never holds any pressure on the gauge side. i checked and have the feed and return lines plumbed as the directions state. what the hell is going on here?

Sounds to me like either the regulator is set too low, or the pump is shutting off after it runs through the fuel pump prime time. If it shows pressure only for a second when you turn the key on, the pump is probably not running while the car is.

You're only getting power to the pump from the timed start relay. You need to get it wired to supply power in run mode as well.
thanks, i guess ill wire the pump to something thats on when the key is. duh. sometimes you just have to walk away.

Do you still have the oil pressure switch hooked up? if you dont thats why you only get the 30sec prime you will have to bypass the oil pressure switch or direct wire to the pump with a key on power
on the last page of my cardomain page is the wireing diagram for the fuel pump

rick1805, thanks that makes sense. so what and where do i look to bypass the oil press. switch? and when i find it what do i have to do to bypass it?

Your oil pressure switch could be in two different places back of your intake under your dist. or where it should be is just above your oil filter should be a 3 wire plug. You take the two outside wires and cross them and your pump should start buzzing away pumping fuel I myself used these wires to put in a anti theft kill switch they might start it but there not getting anywhere and get frustrated and give up.
If you want I have photos that I sent another member to help him out he also had this same problem just PM me your email address

rick thanks again, the oil press. switch did the trick. now i have another question the fuel pump is always humming even with the key off, is this normal and will it run down the batt? second what should i set the timing and idle to? 383 stroker, alum heads, headers, highrise intake, roller rockers with 650carb and a mild cam. itll be street driven daily on pump gas. thanks again, i dont think i ever would have figured it out.

Yea it will run down your battery and burn up your pump thats why you need to put a switch or something to kill the power to your pump ( I use a switch so no one but me can start my car)

look at you Haynes book for the camaro. it will show you two pins on the aldl that you hit together with a paper clip to make the pump come on......take those two wires and crimp them together. thats how i did mine.

all i did for mine was to run a 12v+ ignition on feed to the green/white wire on the fuel pump relay, cut the wire and slice in the ignition on feed towards the relay...works great
good luck
