383 starting point timing and carb
I am getting ready to tune my car and set the timing for my 383 .... i was wondering what a good point for my timing. my setup is in my sig and i have a holley 750 dp mech sec with a 4 corner idle system and has a 71 main jet and a 80 secondary jet and a 6.5 power valve in the primary. When it was running it was rich and when i cracked the secondaries from idle it bogged and then took off like a bat outta hell. you help would be great....

Re: 383 starting point timing and carb
I'd look for 34 degrees of timing up high around 3500-4000rpm, then add more until it slows down and pull back 1-2 degrees. It shouldn't take any more than 38 degrees. After you have that at least for sure close, you could try playing with the accelerator pumps to get rid of that bog when you initially floor it.
