Weird air bleed issue
Weird air bleed issue
I helped a friend the other day re-install the carb on his 87 Olds 442. The settings he had on it were way off ( Idle mixture screws out a million turns and the IAB just cracked open a hair ) but until recently, the car was running pretty good.
So we set the idle screws out 3 turns ( factory setting ) and the air bleed out about 3 1/2 turns ( which should be pretty close to were it should be ). We did NOT have a dwell meter at this time.
So we started the car up and it was still running a bit rough like it was before. Since we didn't have a dwell meter, I said I'll try adjusting the air bleed just to see if anything happens. After just moving it 1/8 of a turn, the car stalls. Put it back to where it was, started the car and tried going the other way and it stalled again right away. Basicaly, any time you moved it, it would stall the engine.
Anyone tell me why this would happen?
