I just picked up a new quad cc carb for my 85 and behind the choke area is a vacuum valve that my other carb didn't have...do I need to hook this up or just cap it off? I can get some pictures if that would help of this valve that goes to the choke...and one more thing..There is another sensor with one wire plugged into it that I’m guessing turns up the idle when the coke is on..Again the new one didn’t have it so I put the old one on..The screw/hex nut does not touch the throttle when it goes out....how do I adjust that..Just turn the hex head or is mine bad? Again I can get some pics posted if that helps...thanks fellas. The new carb gets crazy great gas mileage now but i have to pump the crap out of it to get it to start when it's cold....and idles way to slow until its warm..Once she is warmed up it runs like it never has before.

Is the choke operating correctly? Closed when warm, cracks open slightly when the engine starts then slowly opens to 90 degrees after a few minutes of running?

The throttle kicker solenoid is intended to bump up the idle speed when the A/C is on and under certain decel conditions. It can be adjusted by turning the hex nut. Some more instructions are included in the carb sticky top of this forum. 12 volt to the solenoid terminal should extend the kicker as should turning AC on.

The fast idle adjustment screw is under the choke. You can adjust it with the engine warm by manually engaging the fast idle cam (it will sit on the cam and hold in place until the throttle opens and allows the cam to fall away). Fast idle speed should be posted on a sticker under the hood.

 

Thanks NAF..no sticker under the hood..but I got that adj. ok now that I know were the adj. screw is. The choke works as you said..i checked it when I started it today. I'm not going to worry about that vac valve as the choke works fine now that I adj the speed. Is there any adj for as far as the time the choke stays on? In the colder times in the North West it would be nice if it stayed on a little longer to warm up.

I don't have ac....I turned it out a little and it seems to be fine but then again i don't know when it would come on.

The choke warm up time is 'set' at the factory but if you want you can drill out the choke cover rivets and turn it a hair tighter, re-installing the cover with the little screw-tabs that come in carb re-build kits.

The throttle kicker is also used by the ECM to 'feather' the throttle closed during deceleration. It will become engaged when you let off the gas above a set driving speed. Keeps the throttle from slamming shut and possibly stalling out. It is also sometimes wired into a low pressure switch on the power steering to boost the idle speed if the power steering pressure gets too low.

My LG4's are all automatics and the 5speed set points may be slightly different, but I can check their factory recommended settings for you.

 

This already has screws in the black casing...maybe it isn't new and really is just a rebuilt carb...I loosen the three screws and turn it a little to the right?

 

The sticker on my '85 included the manual transmission settings:

timing: 0 degrees
curb idle (N) 700 rpm
idle solenoid active 800 rpm
fast idle (N) 1800 rpm

 

YES...no. Counter clockwise to keep choke on longer.
