newb carb question.
just got done with tpi to carb swap. car is backfiring through carb pretty badly, even shot up a few flames for me, cant get to run, i have the 4309 return style mallory regulator. seems like its flooding to me i checked distributor got on top dead center and all that good stuff, but no luck.
BUT BUT BUT when i turn the key on the fuel pump primes up, and while im trying to start it i can hear it kicking in. IS THIS THE REASON, do i need to wire up something to keep it from kicking in like it is? not a carb guy any help will be greatly appreciated.

You want the fuel pump to kick on in order to fill the carb bowl. Once they're full, the regulator will control pressure so the float needle & seat can shut off the flow to the fuel bowl.
Check your spark plug wire firing order. You may also not have the timing quite right yet.
