Purpose of a fuel cell?

I am considering putting in one of the plastic 15 gallon fuel cells. What are the advantages of the fuel cell and how much of a pain would it be to install in stock spot?

Thanks, Chas

Two-fold purpose: 1) Keeping the fuel line supplied under G-forces; and 2) safety.

Pain involved? You'd better have a good reason for doing it.

If you wanna cure a starvation problem, just pull out your sending unit, chop off the 3/8" (or whatever size...it is too small for anything serious) metal tube, drill it out to 1/2" and weld in a 1/2" steel fuel pick-up tube, then run 1/2" hose to your carb. Works on my car for cheaper than a cell. 10 sec. E.T.'s easy. Don't forget to buy a big azz fuel pump, too. See the fuel can test on the Demon website.

With a T5, you aren't likely to have a fuel starvation problem because of the stock 3/8" fuel line. . .

I have a 3/8" line on the '57. Moves 3800 pounds down the 1/4 mile to low 12's on E85 (requires about 40% more volume than gasoline).

You have to get to pretty serious power levels before the stock fuel tank and line become an issue.

Re: Purpose of a fuel cell?

It sucks putting one in, unless you are drag racing then there is really no reason to do it, and even then you have to make a cover for it. I used a 12 gal I had laying around since I wanted to use a car and had a fuel injection pump and didn't want to change a bunch of stuff out. I used a 1 gal RCI, and ran a 1/2 aluminum fuel line to a mechanical fuel pump up front. The biggest hassle was making a cover for it.
