Just curious to see what others think .....Is a holley blue pump a better choice or is a Mallory 140 series pump better 'or what pump are you using???What external pumps have a longer running life?

 

well... i have the mallory 140, slightly noisy even with rubber mount. i got it used, and it is still working fine, flows really good, and has internal bypass. Is that what you are going to use for your motor? both should support that motor.

 

I am leaning more toward a Mallory pump, I feel they have a much better longer lasting design . I have heard to many complaints about Holley blue pumps going bad before their time............

 

Ive done alot of reading about the mallory 140 before buying mine. I am going to run it with their pre-pump filter, and a 4309 return style regulator with -10AN feed and -10AN return with NO 90* fittings. Comes out to a very expensive setup, but will be well worth it in my opinion.

 

I ran a Holley Blue on my old 355, never had any problems but even with rubber isolators it was noisy.

 

Have a 20 year old holley blue pump on my race car. The only problem I have had with it was the lower housing leaked Even after I rebuilt it. It used to be on a Dirt track stock car so I am sure it got hit more then a few times with dirt/rock clods and maybe cracked the housing but I couldn't find a crack anywhere so I just mixed up some epoxy and coated the outside of the lower housing with it. No more leak. I had a Red pump that racked up many miles on a few different project cars of mine and never had a problem with that one either. The Holley pumps have been very reliable for me.

As others have said the Holley pumps are very noisy.

BTW, The Holley pumps also have an internal regulator, The blue being regulated to 14 lbs and the red pump to 7 lbs. I am a Holley fan but I am sure that there is nothing wrong with the Mallory pump, Chose whatever you prefer or find cheapest.

 

All of those pumps tend to be noisier if you're using a dead-head style regulator. With a bypass regulator (has a return line) they run quieter and supposedly live longer.

Noisiest pump I've ever used is a Carter electric. Sounds like somebody trying to cut the rear end off the car with a Sawzall when it's running, even with the supplied rubber isolator bushings. Loud exhaust barely drowns it out. I keep wishing ti would die so I could put something quieter on. 8 years, caked with road grime, still running, never rebuilt.

Holley Blues and Reds are whisper-quiet by comparison. And I've never had any problems with them, either. Make sure you feed it adequate voltage (use at least 12ga wire for the long run from the front of the car, use a relay system) and clean fuel. They're very reliable.

 

I decided to go Holley ,seems like a lot of ppl like it and have good luck with them....Already got my relay kit and bypass regulator.Just got to run my plumbing.....Its gonna be nice getting rid of the intank pump once and for all ....
