ok so i picked up an 86 iroc that had been sitting for 3 years... Initially I had to tow it home. Got the radiator and fan back in, new battery, freash gas and some "heet" a few cranks later and a shot of carb cleaner, it fired right up... it ran ok but was miss firing pretty bad... So I change the plugs and wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter, engine oil, tranny fluid, fuel filter and air filter. Wha La, it ran really decient had a little power(still didnt seem like enough) and was scooting around town ok.

Well over the past few times I have driven it, it seems to be getting more and more "slugish" (smells like its running pretty rich) it still drives ok at a slow speed or even if you just increase speed slowly. When I press the gass to the floor it makes no difference in speed, rpms, nothing but dumpin more gass apperantly...

It has what I assume is the original lg4 with quadrajet. the car is a 5spd

any help is greatly appriciated!!!

did you rebuild the carb? Thats a long time to sit up.. probably a vaccum leak at the very least.

Did you set the timing?
Check the fuel filter again.

I fought vacuum leaks after I got my T/A running. It was sitting for several years as well.

Might try some Sea Foam down the carb.

My suggestion is to find a book on q-jets and study it before you even touch the carb.

Re: Running SUPER sluggish!!! HELP PLEASE!!!
Thanks for the fedback everyone.

I am definatly not carb knowlegable ( i usaually fix up newer cars) I will track down all my vacumes and make sure they are good and going to the correct place. And I was already considering running some sea foam so i'll do that too.

Does anyone else think clogged cat when they read about this trouble???

Well, here is a tool to test for any restrictions in the exhaust.

From what I've read 2-3psi is normal for a stock exhaust.
