my 305 is running rough

i think the carburetor needs cleaning but what else could it be?

75% of the time, carburetor problems are caused by ignition.

ditto!

I would check timing, then check gaps in the plus if there new, if they have alot of miles on them or look bad replace them, check wire connections and wire conditions, make sure their not shorting out at any place, also check/clean cap and rotor replace if necessary
