Carburetor question

alright guys i have been going over and over and over everything and the only thing i can come down to that i haven't replaced is the carb so here's what happend.

several months back my car started shaking and not wanting to move so i parked it messed with the ignition wires and it was fine drove it to a party next day nothing wouldn't start at all.

Got it started couldnt go over 2000 rpm's but got it home parked it and it set for 3 months.

GO to work on replace rotor, cap, coil, ignition wires, ditstributor, ignition module, reset it to top dead, routed a power wire to a toggle switch that runs STRAIGHT to the distributor fired it up got it running for first time in months. Changed oil everything pulled it out of garage closed up shop went to leave and as soon as i got it in gear and moved 20 feet it died. Spent 10 minutes moving it 4 blocks to my house and finally dumped it at like 4000 rpms to cost home.

TODAY i took intake off and BAM intake gaskets were totally ****ed lol in like 3 places on one side. Replaced them cleaned everything up put it all back together reset top dead center started it up set timing ran like a beauty. Went to leave got about 40 feet away and it tried to die so i gave it some gas and made it to the stop sign and it died. after starting it 10 times made it back around the block to my house and parked it.

I have replaced everything i can think of to cause this except carburetor. You can smell the gas it loads up but it acts like it aint getting fuel at low rpm's and after it did that it wont even idle anymore. Prom is saturday and i am stressing out. I thought maybe a vaccuum leak or something but its too late to check everything do any of u have any ideas or anything or suggestions. I literally feel like blowing something up im so frickin stressed out please help me if u can.

Tomarrow i think ill blow the last of my money on a new carb but if you guys have any ideas shoot away.

Re: Carburetor question

Is your choke stuck on? Sounds like it might be stuck closed or getting no 12v power. What kind of carb is it?

Didn't realize you had posted on two different forums.

We'll leave it here on the Carburetor forum.

Re: Carburetor question

ok today i replaced my carb gasket because it was leaking a little also got new tubing for my vacuum lines k so i kinda guessed the timing found a spot where it ran good got everything set went to drive it and same fricking problems man BUT this time it started back up which is awsome so i got a couple of questions that need to be answered lol since it sputters at high rpm's i need to turn fuel pressure up to eliminate that problem or see if it helps and yes its a timing advance dist

Re: Carburetor question

kk i got it all figured out the whole problem was the ignition switch and where u put the key in basically the pump would key on when trying to start it BUT not when u put the key in the run position so the pump wouldnt stay on im either going to figure out how to adjust it or bend the metal piece that runs down to it to put it correctly in to where it is supposed to sit lol

Re: Carburetor question

Do you have a factory electric pump, mechanical pump on the side of the block, or aftermarket electric?

Re: Carburetor question

its a tank fuel pump as far as i know stock got it all fixed replaced ignition switch adjusted it correctly and everything works great today though it developed what i would like to call a tractor sypmtom lol basically at idle it sounds like a tractor it literally misfires on a few cylinders and have a tractor sound but when given a little gas its fine the carb is leaking gas from the middle of the carb so gunna replace it

You need a return-style regulator like the Mallory 4309 to bring the fuel pressure down to a carb-friendly 4-6 psi.

Until you do that, you can't expect your poor carb to be able to do anything right.
