Carb advice?

ok, so im getting close to starting my motor after ive upgraded the carb and distributer (or at least i hope).

1.)Ive got a good understanding of the distributer and how to set the timing but when it comes to the carb (650dp 4150) i have to admit that im kind of a novice. I know some ppl to talk to and i learn pretty quick, but does anyone have any good advice to give?
2.)Im gonna try to absorb as much knowledge as i can. Does anyone know of any good threads to checkout or where to get a good understanding of these carbs at?

Also, i tried to attach a couple of pics. (dont know if it worked or not). i was wondering if its ok to leave my plug wires like they for now or if they have to be sepperated.

I'm not seeing the pics for some reason. (Might be my computer/ISP. And, I might have messed your post up trying to edit. Want to try posting them again?)

Re: Carb advice?

I have found the site www.bob2000.com to have some really good carb tuning advice. The first thing you are going to want to do is make sure it starts and idles. Before you bolt the carb down, adjust the primary throttle blades (with the screw that controls idle). Make sure the transition slot is exposed a little. Next, do a baseline setting on the floats. Put the jets, squirters, power valve and pump cams at the stock setting. It is the best place to start. Turn your idle mixture srews all the way in then back off 1 1/2 turns. Lastly (and most importantly), get the timing set to a point that the car will start right up. I usually put the #1 cylinder at TDC (on the firing stroke!), and then see where the distributor rotor is pointing. I pick the closest terminal and call that #1. Rotate the engine back to 15* BTDC and make sure the rotor lines up with the post that you are calling #1. Then it is just your firing order from there (18436572).

After you start it, keep track of EVERY change you make from baseline. Even turning in the idle screw. If you turn it too far, the transition slot will be way too exposed and your idle will be VERY rich (and the idle mixture screws will be totally unresponsive). Hope this helps!
