need help with my timing
ok so i just rebuilt my motor i re did every thing but upgraded to a high flow oil pump and a bigger cam. the car never ran right before the rebuild. but now its fine when the computer connection is disconnected from the distributor. but when its plugged in the car wont stay on it idles 900-1000 for a sec then drops till it dies all in 2 seconds from the car being started. and if i rev the car too hard it backfires.
NE ideas?
PS my cam is a Crower stage 3 cam. the specs are AD=288°/298° at 112°. with a lift of .444/.464. and my timing is set to 8°.
im driving it to work local with the distributor disconnected and it runs fine but it feels like it lost its grunt if u know what im sayin.
i need this fixed asap if it can damage the motor

either your distributor module is bad or your ccc carb needs a rebuild with new electronics

If your car is computer equipped, then what you are most likely going to need is a custom prom... if that's the case what's happening is that the ECM is trying to compensate for your bigger cam... if this isn't the case, then you need to do some research into how much more base timing your car may need...

Re: need help with my timing
first off i already rebuilt the carb i just didn't replace electronics. and the distributor is untouched so those are an option.
next my car has a computer controled carb so the prom might be it. but if that's the case im just goin to get a non computer distributor and carb and throw that in it.
if i did that would that fix it?
and thx for the fast responses i appreciate it a lot

If you dont have to pass emissions and dont mind ditching the computer stuff then go ahead just remember to address the transmission if its an automatic.
