Float Level Adj. Screw Leaking

I have a 750 Speed Demon. I've noticed one of the float level screws is a little stripped out and it has some small bubbles forming between the nut and the locking screw, which means it's leaking/dripping a little bit. Obviously I don't want to have a fire, so I bought the Holley replacement kit with the new nut, screw, and gaskets from O'Reilly Auto Parts. I tried AutoZone first and was told I wanted "to high class parts" and wasn't helped after that. Sorry, micro rant

Do I need to pull the carb off the intake and take the bowl off or is this something I can replace while it's still on the car?

Re: Float Level Adj. Screw Leaking

1) Is the lock screw stripped where it screws into the needle and seat?

OR

2) Is the needle and seat stripped where it screws into the bowl?

If 1)... the Holley n&s kit will fix it and only that can be swapped with nothing else removed. Simple r&r.

If 2)... you need the Holley kit and a new float bowl. I have had this happen on my Demon years back. AFAIK there is no way to helicoil these threads.

Re: Float Level Adj. Screw Leaking

Needle is fine and lock screw threads are fine. Lock screw head is rounded on the top due to previous owner (bought off ebay) probably using improper size and putting to much torque on it. Other one needs to replaced too (screw head is also rounded), but I could only find one kit for now so I figured if I have leaking gasket good time to swap out to new screw too.

Good deal. A simple r&r will fix this for you!

Where exactly does the o-ring go? I just pulled it apart and did not find an o-ring.

From pics on the internet looks like it just goes in the middle of the needle and it's not accessable from the top of the carb unless I take the bowels off. Is that correct?

Re: Float Level Adj. Screw Leaking

Threw the two new gaskets, nut, and locking screw on there. Longest part of the project was trying to figure out why I couldn't get the key to turn over then I realized I had my '99 Bonneville key in it (same rubber design).

Pressure tested for about a minute I don't see any leaks. Looks like I'm good to go again.

Sorry, I just saw this. Yes that is where the o ring is placed. No need to replace usually as long as the n&s is not removed. Just remove the lock screw and nut, replace both gaskets and reassemble. But you figured this out already so good deal. Look into getting the nylon n&s gaskets. I got mine from AED at a local speed shop as they had them on the shelf. I am sure others make them as well. The paper ones seem to dry out and always seem to tear after being on for a few months, at least for me. The nylon ones are real nice.

Good job!

Funny about the key, a real duh moment. We all get them.
