rough start and secondary doesnt open correctly
when i try to start my 85 camaro i have to push on the gas, turn the key, let of the gas and rev otherwise once i let off it dies completely, and when i push on the gas too much it sounds like **** due to a minor exhaust leak, also it takes a solid couple minutes of idling before the secondaries open and the car idles nicer. does anyone know how i can fix it or what is wrong? all help is appreciated

Check your choke pull-off. It should crack open the choke slightly as soon as the engine is started and it receives a vacuum signal. Remove the vac hose from it, push it in and place your finger over the nipple where the vac line connected. It should stay in until you release your finger.
Otherwise check that your choke is properly functioning. There's a sticky up top with tons of info on servicing the E4ME.

The secondaries are disabled until the car warms up and the choke opens.

I kinda figured he was calling the choke blade 'secondaries', maybe confusing the two terms?

It sounds like the choke isn't working right. They are very easy to adjust though. It's not closing enough/at all, and not pulling off right after started.
On these cars and most in general you shouldn't be revving it for atleast 5-10 minutes after it's been running. The secondaries are locked out as Aperion said until it's warm. The secondaries are the 2 big air valves on the back of the carb. They do not open sitting there idling very easily and shouldn't. They only open when the motor needs it's, they work off of vacuum.
The primaries are what control cold start, idle, and cruise, pretty much anything that's not over half throttle. The choke air valve is the 3-4 inch long flap on the top front of the carb and it literally chokes the primaries. On a cold start, like 5 hours since it's last run, after you tap the throttle before starting the choke should snap shut. Once it starts the choke valve should open up 1/8 inch and very slowly open up as the choke thermostat warms.
