carburetor malfuction (need help)
I have a 600cfm 1405 edelbrock. with an eletric choke. The carb started spewing gas out every spot of this carb, except the fuel line. I'm looking to replace this carb with a little bit bigger carb. But I know that I'm going to run it to the same problem with the secondary butterflys. I couldn't get the car to move if I floored it from a dead stop or I'm doing 45mph and I floored it from there it would bog out. I'm not a carb expert never the less I don't know much of anything about carbs. But I had one guy tell me that if you take that little rod that opperates the secondary butterflies, it would run better than it did. Anymore advise would be greatly appreciated. I just want to be able to floor it and it take off like a bat out of hell. LOL. I should of just stuck with the fuel injection. But thats out of the picture now. Its ether the carb working right or it the junk yard for the car.

Re: carburetor malfuction (need help)
FYI, the 1405 is a 500 cfm carb, not a 600.
if gas is shooting out, change the bowl gasket, its the only one on the edelcrock carbs, that and reset the float, sounds like its hung open or adjusted wrong.
you have a lt1? should have kept the FI.

Re: carburetor malfuction (need help)
My fuel pressure is set at 5 psi.
I bought this engine used and it didn't come with the fuel rail, the injectors, the water pump, or the throttle body. now if I knew I was going to run in this kind of problem I would of got all those parts and made it fuel injected. My car is now wireless for the computer brain box.
This engine is a 95 cast iron heads LT1 it has an eletric water pump intead of cam driven, Also the next step up cam where I didn't have to make any mods to it except stiffer valve springs.
I'm looking for a Q-jet carb.

Re: carburetor malfuction (need help)
Nope - the 1405 is a 600cfm carb.
Biggest visible difference between 1405 and 1406 is 1406 has electric choke standard. Edelbrock states that 1405 is better for the Performer RPM, Torker II, or Performer AirGap intakes... while they state the 1406 is not suitable for a RPM, Torker II or Air Gap intake but better suited for the Performer or Performer EPS - so there must be something different inside as well.
The 1403 and 1404 are 500cfm carbs.

And it could be more correctly stated that the Torker II isn't suitable for any purpose, regardless of what carb is on top.

Re: carburetor malfuction (need help)
This is the intake I'm using. This 1405 edelbrock is bone stock but old and used. I'm the second owner of this carb. Not knowing what he did to the carb. I'm trying to figure out why the car bogs out at WOT. is it too much fuel or too much air or what? I don't know **** about carbs. Or how to rebuild it. But I am able to learn. Anyone have a Q-jet for sale.LOL

What kind of a bog is it? Does it get kind of lazy and then pick up, or does it stay lazy?

It stays lazy. Unless I let up on the pedel. Then it will go. I want to be able to floor it from a dead stop and light up my tires. If it can't do it I don't want it. LOL

Re: carburetor malfuction (need help)
No its used. I don't know how well it was kept up on. But right now I have no carb for my car I took it off. Because I'm looking to replace it with something better. My car has been sitting for three months now. Its eatting me up that I can't drive it.

Get it cleaned up and rebuild it and it'll run a whole lot better.

Re: carburetor malfuction (need help)
1405 is a calibrated for a little more performance and the 1406 is more leaner and calibrated for fuel economy. otherwise pretty much the same.
