How hard to convert TPI to carb?

I have a 91 Z28 with a 305 and TPI right now. Whenever I get out of college, get a place to live and get a stable job I would like to put a 383 stroker in my car, switch it over to carb, throw on some headers and get the tranny redone. I know there is a lot of threads on here for switching early third gens to carb, but is it possible to switch a 91 to carb and keep the ECM in good shape to pass emissions? (unless the emissions move to OBD II only by then *fingers crossed*)

Sorry if this doesn't help, but its really not worth the trouble. You could easily build a 383 TPI that will start up on the coldest days of winter and still keep decent mileage (especially if you keep an OD trans) as well as emissions if you choose to retain the components.

I plan to keep the OD trans and change the gears to 3.27 or 3.73 instead of the crap 2.73 that is in it now.

As for keeping a 383 TPI, wouldn't I have to buy a larger throttle body, larger injectors and larger runner tubes to make up the displacement difference between a 305 and a 383?

You wouldn't have to, but you'd probably want to in order to keep from choking the 383.

You'd absolutely need a custom tune, though.

But anyway, if you need the ECM, you'd need to swap the carb out for the TPI again every time you went to get tested.

Well I'll probably just keep the TPI then, seems like way too much of a hassle.

Ya, trust me - the average fuel injected car runs smoother and cleaner than the average carbureted car (this is coming from an owner of both types).
