Holley 650 double pumper question

The car idles great no problem. How ever if I get into it, it bogs down pretty much dieing. But if I slowly get into it it goes. Also sometimes I think it surges. I am not exactly what surging is but it makes sense. Can someone explain what surging is or show a video of a car surging?

Do I get a 50cc pump or adjust the squirters first?

Re: Holley 650 double pumper question

sounds like you possibly have some junk in your main curcuit or one of your jets is clogged. pull the bowl and the jets and have a look. I've had a jet clogged before from a cotton swab after cleaning it out, and it acted up horribly. would just fall on its face after the pumpshot, car would barely maintain 25 mph.

...the squirter should also give you a healthy shot with the slightest bit of throttle movement. adjust the pump lever screw until you get this. The squirter shouldn't dribble like a leaky faucet when you roll the throttle.

Re: Holley 650 double pumper question

If your at a died stop and you give it gas that would be your accelerator pump. You probably need to bring that squinter from 28c to 35. If it bogs more when its cold and less when warm at a died stop its your accel pump. If it at higher rpm it will be your jets or under hard throttle its probably power valve.

Re: Holley 650 double pumper question

There are VERY few street engines out there that can make use of a 50cc pump. Its way too much for 99% of whats out there, so I'm pretty sure that won't help you. It might just add one more problem to your list.

Before you go spending money on parts, have you made sure the accelerator pump linkage is adjusted correctly? In my experience, the instructions Holley gives on how to set it up don't work very well. Adjust the linkage tighter just up to the point where you've taken all the slack out of it, but its not 'tight'. This way you are getting a pump shot every time the throttle gets opened even a little bit. If the linkage is too loose, then you may not be getting a pump shot when you need it, or as much as you should get, so it will cough and spit and hesitate untill the carb 'catches up' with the engine.

Re: Holley 650 double pumper question

Air-Adam is on the money, if that leg isnt adjusted as he described it youll get a bog. 50cc pump isnt needed unless you got roughly a 40 squirter or hollow screw usually on the secondary which most motors will never use.

In short its a redenck bandaid that just lightens the wallet.
30cc pumps are plenty sufficient, small details in adjustment are where its at, change one thing at a time and take notes.
