LG4 tuning advice needed

im a little new to carbs , but damn i like em a lot now, i want to tune my car but would like to keep the 305 in it ,i gave my car a tune up and i already stripped the thermac of my aircleaner and the gold filter like ring of the hat, im getting DR secondary rods or better than the CH i have now i want to change the cam and getting headers also, the cam is the part i have doubt i have hydraulics now so is there any good cam that works good with hydraulics and not having to upgrade to rollers? I just want to crack a mild 250HP enough to smoke ricers around the block for now ill go for the heavy stuff later, and sice i havent bought any headers and exhaust what would be a good one. and in what order should I do the mods (pardon for being such a newb too used to own a 1990 tpi iroc dont know much about older irocs).

Re: LG4 tuning advice needed

You Definitily have a hydrolic cam if thats what you are asking. There are MANY of options out there for you slap a bigger stick in there without having to swap rockers (unless you want to) but a 305 may be a little more scarce. Comp Cams has the "THUMPR" line of cams. They give you better performance without all the head work. Basically sounds like you have a radical motor by the throat-y, lobe-y sound it emits! Make sure you do your reasearch though. You may probably have to use their springs as well and sometimes they are so tight, they pull the studs right out of the head. Edlebrock also has "performer" kits that include anything from just a cam "kit" right up to complete top end kits that include heads, carb EVERYTHING. And they are pretty reasonability priced. Also the right exhaust bolted on to those headers will make a big differance. I know when my 83 Z28 was still on its stock 305, the flowmaster woke that thing right up. Keep us posted on what you are doing. Eager to hear! GOOD LUCK

In addition to the thread naf linked, on the FAQ forum there is a thread called "differences between 305's and performance upgrades", or something to that effect. It's all covered there.
