Do i have an 800 CFM Quadrajet?

I was at the Junkyard looking at the New arrivals (I'm usually at the Junkyard) and saw a 1986 Camaro. I was thinking YES! Fresh Parts! In the cargo area, i found two Quadrajets. One looked like it was pretty well used and was the Electronic kind (Yuck, Blah), and the other was Non-Electronic. In addition, it looked like it had been professionally rebuilt recently. In fact, i doubt that it was on an engine for long if it had been after the rebuild. At the U-Pull-It yard, Carburetors are $28 no matter what they are, so i figured i would gamble. Since then i have determined that it's a 1979 Model.

Serial Numbers are:

17059205
1139 CBD

It has a Hot-Air Choke

There's a Paper sticker attached that reads:

UREMCO
Remanufactured
3-3686
01/23/09

I have not tried this thing on my car, so i don't know if it's good or not. Do you think i should try to rebuild it before i try it?

Is this 800 CFM?

i would buy 2 carb gaskets put that carb on see how it runs and go from there no sense in going through the money time and trouble if there is no need especially how good it sounds in your discription and if it dont run good you can put your old carb on

Not likely to be 800 CFM. Originally it looks to have been from a 79 GMC pickup, but there's no telling how it's been rebuilt.

IIRC, GM stopped using the hot air choke in '74, so if its a hot air choke, its a '74 or earlier unit. Also, only the very early Qjets (like mid 60s) were 750cfm units. All the later ones were 795cfm, with a few being 850cfm on the really big motors like the 500ci Caddy for example.

So, then, the lump i'm seeing in the Primary is not the one i'm looking for? I've read that if it has a lump in the Primary it's the 800CFM, but i'm not experienced at Quadrajet ID so i wanted verification.

Do you guys suppose this would be a decent carb for my 305? $28 was hard to pass up. Does it have potential to put atop a 383?

I had hot air choke on my 83 truck. I'm fairly sure it was 795 cfm. I say slap it on and try it

That's not it... look from the top, not the bottom.

Re: Do i have an 800 CFM Quadrajet?

Thank you. I'll tell my buddy. He should know since he just bought the carb from me. It's sitting on his 79 GMC 4x4 right now. He seems pretty pleased with it's performance. I wonder if 50 CFM is going to make a difference to him. If he doesn't want it, i'll still be glad to take back a good working Quadrajet. Thank you for helping me.
