Fuel pump question...
I am going to need to replace the fuel pump in my Trans-Am soon, because the motor is starved for fuel on the top end of rpm. My question is, since my car was originally TPI, should I;
A. convert to a carb pickup and mount a mechanical fuel pump to my block, now 305 carb, and also run new fuel lines since they're on the wrong side.
B. install a higher volume in-tank electric and leave the lines because they're not in that bad of shape, and continue to use the afpr I have up in the engine compartment.
I worked it out to be that the costs aren't too far away from each other, so I just want to know which setup would be better, I personally don't like the idea of running new lines myself, so I would probably have my mechanic friend help with this endeavor if I go that route.
Thanks

Re: Fuel pump question...
Replace the stock pump wth a higher flowing one and keep the regulator. Just drop the tank and dont cut a hole in your well like everyone seems to do....
On a side note, there is no reason the stock pump would starve a 305 for fuel....check to make sure youre filter isnt clogged or maybe the pump is just going out.

Re: Fuel pump question...
I think the pump may be going out, it has unknown mileage but there are no holes in the floor, and the body has 180k on it... The pump sounds kinda goofy sometimes, like its going bad.
What size would be recommended? manufacturer?
Thanks again

Re: Fuel pump question...
Well, at this point I do not need to replace my fuel pump...
When installing the new motor, the lines on the afpr leaked, While I was changing a defective starter, one of my comrades was fixing the leaky lines. Turns out they were reversed... Which is why i could only get the pressure to go to 3.5 psi. Considering how these things work together, it shouldnt have been running at all, much less as good as it was. Now it runs flawlessly and is everything I intended it to be.
Thanks for your help and that will be what I will replace mine with when it does go out. But for now priorities shift to...PAINT!
This summer should be a fun one... hehehe
