Edelbrock 1406

ok so my car (89' Firebird Formula) runs and drive great she really pulls at 75% throttle........BUT when i go WOT there is no pull????

Engine Specs (it was pull out of an 89' Suburban LB9)
-Board 30 over
-deck shaved
-STOCK HEADS
-Stage 2 duel rise Intake manifold (Summit)
-Hooker Shorty Headers no CAT to 3" exhaust to magnaflow muffler
-Edelbrock 600cfm 1406 CARB
-Mallory 4309 FPR

my summit fuel pressure gauge is steady at 5.5 PSI even under load ( i can see threw the off center hood induction to my gauge) i think i am running to lean but i don't really know how to tune a Carb, do i need to calibrate it with SEATS, RODS ect

Re: Edelbrock 1406

Try playing with the springs first- go a bit stiffer.

If that doesn't work, then play with the rods and jets. If you have the manual, there's a 'map' in it that shows the stock combo, and where each combo of jets/rods will put you.

Re: Edelbrock 1406

The springs are inside the carb.

Looking at it from the front, on each side on the top there is a Torx screw holding down a oblong/melted jellybean looking cover. Your springs, rods, and jets are under those plates.

Re: Edelbrock 1406

Springs won't have anything to do with it.

Read the Edelbrock manual and follow the step-by-step process they have for tuning. You won't find a simpler explanation.

And get rid of the triangle-of-death air cleaner before your car chokes on it.

Re: Edelbrock 1406

That's what fixed mine when I had an identical problem. The stock springs were too soft for 75%- WOT and weren't making the rod to pull out of the jet.

Re: Edelbrock 1406

Follow the instructions from the beginning, and make sure you do all of the steps in order. Don't just jump to the end where you change springs.
