Random questions

So I just FINALLY got done chasing leaks in my coolant system. I bought my car in February, and had it on the road by March and it initially "almost" (I say that because it reached around 215-220 degrees) overheated and caused bubbling into the overflow tank. So, I ripped out the cheap, shitty "autozone-looking" radiator and replaced it with a 3 core, 31x19 Griffin. I redid all the hoses, filled everything up and it ran solid afterwards.

I kept checking my levels like I do every week and I noticed I was losing coolant. Then, just the other day my heater core (#$%^#%$!) exploded behind my dash, and pissed all over my friend's feet. Not really a big deal, as it's June and we're getting pretty consistent weather here in New England (lol) so I just setup a heater core bypass. Car is running good, and I'm no longer losing coolant.

Anyway... while doing all this work I've been looking at other ways to reduce the temperature under the hood. Not really for any reason in particular, but I have felt it can be a bit hot sometimes. The paint on the car is relatively new, from around 2005 but there are a few imperfections and "starring" - mostly around the fenders. With that said, here are my questions!

The car is a 15th Ann T/A (350 Carb) with the "turbo induction" hood.

1) Will removing the pieces that cause the turbo hood to open cause any ill side effects? I was thinking removing it would help remove excess heat, and would hopefully still suck in some air on the highway. I was curious if anyone else has done this?

And if I did..

2) Should I remove the hood blanket as well?

Essentially, my main problem with the intake is that I'm using an Edelbrock chrome air filter, and the turbo induction comes out on top of the filter. So I don't feel it's really doing any good sucking in cold air and hitting the top of the filter. My thinking was removing it would ultimately bring cold air in at high speeds, and also let heat escape during idle.

Anyone have this type of hood and done anything similar?

Note: I couldn't figure out where to post this, since my car is carb'd and it's not really a cooling question.. more or less I want to bring cold air in for my carb, and at the same time dispel heat. I was going to post this in the cooling section, but it felt more appropiate here.

Re: Random questions

The induction system is a marketing gimmick more than anything. You wouldn't notice a difference between opening it up all the time or blocking it off completely.

IMO the blanket is worth keeping to keep hood paint looking good by protecting it from high temps, quiet my ride a little, and according to some posts, act as a mechanism to stop a fire (in fire situations plastic retainers melt allowing blanket to fall down & help smother fire)
