holley 600 trouble
my wonderful 305 only likes to start easily when its 80+ degrees out and if i get it running when its cooler out, it wont start back up worth of crap, this happened after i changed the carb to the holley, whats wrong here?
Re: holley 600 trouble
Are you running a functional choke system?
And did you replace the computer controlled distributor with a non computer controlled one when you ditched the original computer controlled QJet carb?

Re: holley 600 trouble
the newest seen trouble with it is it has no spark, before it would run alright but now only fires on 2 cylinders I'd say and then dies, I'm so tired of the 305 lol

Re: holley 600 trouble
When you say that it has no spark, do you mean that there is no spark at all or do you mean that it is only sending the spark to a couple cyls, as you described above?
As brought up, I'm assuming the Holley is not computer controlled. Are you running the stock computer controlled distributor still?
If you are, then this is your major area of problem. Replace it with an HEI style distributor with a vacuum advance.

Re: holley 600 trouble
it had spark to a few clyinders and now its just completely dead, there were pencil marks within the distributor cap so that led me to think its misfiring, and no the holley isnt computer controlled

Re: holley 600 trouble
swapping to a non computer controlled carb REQUIRES you to change out the distributor to a non computer controlled one as well. thats most likely the majority of youre problems right there.

Re: holley 600 trouble
As Travis said, you can't do one without the other. Although it might start, your not going to get very far without changing to an HEI. Like you said yourself, the car was running and now it seems to be running down a bunch of cylinders. Or think of it in a different perspective, you see misfire symptoms under the cap so you know that it's ignition related. Get a complete HEI dizzy from Summit or Jegs or where ever. It'll come with a cap rotor ect. Either way you want to look at it, replacing the distributor is your next step.
