Ok, I would like some advise from some people who have actually used both carbs. I am currently running an edlebrock 650cfm on a 350 bored .030 over and I am fairly satisfied with it. It is super easy to adjust and really only needs adjusting when the seasons change. However, I picked up a Holley 600 cfm P-80 not too long ago that needs rebuilding and I was thinking about trying it out. I have NO experience with Holley's but this one has the electric choke which I dont currently have on the Edlebrock. So which one is better? Is it worth rebuildling and trying out?

 

What's the list number on the Holley?

 

I never realized true performance until I bolted on a Holley.I was running a edelbrock 750 on my .30 over 350,shaved and polished heads,weiand x-elerator intake,msd dist,blah blah blah,etc.The point is...I'm not badmouthing edelbrock at all.The carb performed very good.But when I bolted on the Holley street avenger I was blown away.The throttle response was way snappier,no lag at wot and it had noticable low end gains.Just my opinion.Next one I would like to try is the race carb with no choke,just bare essentials.

 

I love a good holley-based carb. They're real easy to rebuild with a ton of aftermarket support and modifications that can be done to them. I'd go with a Holley, but there's a lot of personal preference in this question.

 

well this car is not something that I take to the drag strip or anything. It is just my toy for riding around I guess you could say. I want a carb that is dependable and what I mean by that is doesnt have to be rebuilt every year. The Edlebrock has been pretty good I suppose. I had a problem with a float earlier this spring but I think it was because the car sat up for a few weeks with ethonol tainted gas.

 

holley is much better in my opinion

 

I have used both, right now I have a gary williams (holley) on my engine. But the edelbrock is a good carb, not junk. The holley is quicker tho, but its real picky on settings.

ive always found that the edelbrock is better for the guy that just wants to bolt a carb on "out of the box"and run,holleys are better for the hottroder that will make changes to see what works best-ive ran them both,and i love the holley on my z28,but the edelbrock never let me down either

 

Edelbrocks are easy to tune but holleys are generally better for performance. I put a holley on my z28 305 with a holley intake and it made a world of difference.

 

I did it no problem. Had no experience with carbs at all. As you're taking it apart, take pictures of "steps" and label bags with where it all goes. It's pretty straight-forward as daunting as it might look.

 

Pretty much as said above, The Edelbrock is an older design and doesn't have as much adjustability as a Holley based carb. Nor is the Edelbrock as performance oriented, but neither are "junk".

 

Holley by a million miles. Or any holley style carb. ex. Demon, Quickfuel, etc. The throttle response is off the hook. And I say you gain 30 HP from going from an edelbrock to holley IMO.

 

i find after 30 something years working on cars ect that ;holleys need constant tinkering to remain viable,edelbrock carbs are more set it and forget it.and yes i expect to get slammed for my humble opinion

 

see, constant attention is what a holley needs ,if youre up for all that. then yes they do have a performance edge. however if you just want to drive your car then edelbrock carbs are the way to go
