In-tank fuel pump

We've added power to the green and white wire at the the relay and I can't hear the pump kick on...then I cut the pink wire going to the pump in the back seat and added power and still can't hear anything...I guess I will have to add fuel in the tank and send power to the pump and see if any fuel comes out of the supply line. Can anyone tell me if the pump is loud enough that I would definitly be able to hear it in a quit garage?

Re: In-tank fuel pump

there is usually a red wire coming off the relay that doesnt go anywhere. it is a hot wire for the fuel pump. and yes you should hear it when it comes on.

Re: In-tank fuel pump

I must be messing with the wrong relay... I only have a little over 8 volts in the pink wire running in the back seat when the key is on. The brown wire in the back seat I assumed was for the gas gauge. The second relay beside the booster has a big red wire going to it but its hot constantly. In the other relay there is a orange wire that is hot when the key is on. I tried to locate the pink wire from the pump under the dash in the computer harnesses but there is like 15 pink wires and 1000 other wires. The problem I guess still stands that I didn't hear anything no matter what I did. Guess my pump is bad...idk.

Re: In-tank fuel pump

colors changed at some point. my 91 has a purple wire for the gauge and a grey wire for the 12v power to the pump.

Yep you were correct the brown is the 12V and pink is for the sending unit...needless to say because we added power to the pink wire my gauge quit working so anyone who reads this do not add power to the pink wire or at least be sure you have the correct wire b4 doing so LOL. Replaced the existing tank with a '92 Z28's tank...Dropping the tank was NOT fun and that was doing this on a lift couldn't imagine trying to do it on the ground.

Re: In-tank fuel pump

the first time i dropped the tank was in the parking lot of a freinds shop with a floor jack and some jack stands and hand tools. needless to say it took a while the first time but thanks to a defective pump and screwed up filler neck, i can do it in half an hour without dropping the rear...
