LG4 into TPI car
LG4 into TPI car
Installing an LG4 into an '87 IROC, originally a LB9 car. Also, th200c is with the LG4, so guess it's going in too... (car had 700R4 originally). I am going through the wiring and i know i won't be needing it all, so does anyone have tips or advice you care to share? Any and all will be greatly appreciated!

Re: LG4 into TPI car
That's A WHOLE LOTTA MAZE with VERY LITTLE CHEEEEEEEZ at the end.
Better idea would be, take the TPI off of the LB9, and put it on top of the LG4 short block. Not going to be a "race winner" or anything, but it's pretty much a bolt-up. No hacking on the wiring required.
That way you don't have to put that crappy 200C in it as well.

I understand why you might ask "why" to my motor/trans choice, but it is simple: it's all i have to put in it. period. So if anyone can help, great! If not, i am still putting it in there.

Does this mean you don't have the original LB9, or any of the TPI stuff? Or the TH700R-4?
First, this isn't legal, but something tells me you don't care much about that.
The computer stuff harness all goes to the passenger fenderwell and passes into the passenger compartment to the ECM for both cars. Remove the LB9 harness & computer, install the LG4 stuff in its place. So far, so good.
The '87 alternator used a different plug than the LG4 did (unless the LG4 is also '87 - since you indicated the LG4 has a TH200C behind it, that pretty much rules out the LG4 being an '87). The '87 alternator will mount in place of the LG4 alternator, so that isn't too big of a deal. '86-'87 used the flat multi-groove belt, while earlier used V-belt, so you may have to change the pulley if you use the '87 alternator and '85-earlier LG4 accessories.
There's probably something else you aren't telling us, so we'll wait for you to spill the rest.

Yeah, it's Federal EPA stuff. Enforcement, testing, inspection, etc., are typically left to state and local authorities based on historical local air quality data, but technically the law applies across all 50 states.
87's still had the LG4 computer carb engine available, but the system varied slightly from the '82 LG4. The likelihood of getting in trouble for it is pretty slim, but not zero, especially if you move from Michigan to a more air-quality-challenged area some day.
