Fuel pump filter issue!

ran a search and found nothing!

I pulled the fuel pump to fix a busted fuel line inside the fuel pump. Noticed there was a crack in the filter that looks like a bow that attaches to the bottom of the fuel pump.

Anyone know what this part is called?
Will a crack in cause a problem with the operation of the fuel pump or does this need to be replaced?

thanks

Re: Fuel pump filter issue!

and if something went through that strainer, it could "Possibly" get jammed or just clog up the fuel pump, all just depends on how dirty the tank is and how the pump looks. fuel pump strains are like 10$

Re: Fuel pump filter issue!

Well , when i ended up replacing the fuel pump and strainer while i was in there. However, another problem came up. A wire that i believe goes to the scale that measures how much gas is in the tank snapped. Not sure how i can re-attach it as theres really nothing to work with.

Anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?

thanks

Re: Fuel pump filter issue!

This happened to me actually, ande overtime I contiplated a idea I wish I wouldvedone before lifting up the tank again, this is my genious idea. Connect the wire that connects to the body of the car that transmits the signal, push the wire to the part where its supposed to be. Tell someone to hold ot there. Then go turn the ley and tell the person to move the float up and down slowly to see if it works. Then solder it or hook it up with something and try that again. If it works. If it does. Ur good.

Re: Fuel pump filter issue!

I haven't fixed mine actually because I didn't have a soldering gun. Amd didn't wanna use tape or glue or stuff like that because the gas would eventually eat it.

That can just be soldered?

If i leave it alone, i just wont be able to tell how much gas i have right?

Re: Fuel pump filter issue!

That is where I am unsure, this is why before u put tank up just connect the wire that goes into the body of car that send the signal and hook the wire up and tellsomeone to move float up and down. And you check if it is sendind signal to the dash. Get me,? Or I can make a pic to xplain. Abetter.

Re: Fuel pump filter issue!

In the fuel pump I recently installed I soldered the conenctions. I didn't use the butt splices that came with the pump because I wanted to make sure I had a solid connection. Don't use tape or anything else that would 'melt' if submerged in gasoline.
