84 Z28 Carbed......??
So I got a 84 Z28 and I wanted to know what are some inexpensive mods I can do to gain some HP, I am looking in the range of maybe 100-300 buks. Im not interested in spending $1000's of dollar's right now.
I was also wondering what a good exhaust system would be, becuase I was thinking of later on getting the Flowmaser 80 series.

Exhaust should be the first thing. And, it will cost you a good bit more than $300 to do it right.

To be honest, there's really not a damn thing you can do with $300. Not anything significant anyway. You could get a different muffler and thats about it.

If we're talking an LG4, then a dual snorkel air cleaner could be purchased or fabricated for less than that. Something like a Ram Air unit would come close to eating up the $300.
But, like I already said, exhaust is the first thing that should be done. A muffler alone ain't gonna help - the whole thing needs to be replaced, and doing that in a fashion that will actually make a difference is going to run about $800 - at least. Hooker 2055HKR's (best off-the-shelf headers and Y-pipe available - the cheap headers won't work as well, and will end up costing you more by the time you get a "real" Y-pipe fabricated) are just under $500 now. A Flowmaster Force II cat-back (the least expensive, good-flowing, 3" system of which I'm aware - I'm running it on my LS1/T56 car) is right around $300. Then you still need to put a direct-fit cat in-between, or a 3" piece of pipe. If you go cheaper than that on ANY of the parts, you're wasting your money.

Step 5: Realize this did absolutely nothing to improve power, and now you are illegal in all 50 of the United States for use on public streets, roads, and by-ways.

The cat isn't what's restrictive in an LG4 exhaust system. If it is, it's because it's clogged up, which means you've got a different problem. And, an aftermarket high flow cat will keep you legal without increasing backpressure if there is something wrong with the factory cat.

Re: 84 Z28 Carbed......??
At least have a better flowing y-pipe made to replace the factory one that is more of a T it is very restrictive. a edelbrock performer intake and a set of 1.6 rocker arms will help alittle. you can find the intake and rocker arms, comp magnums for example with in the budget if you shop around. what realy helps on these car is a dual snorkle aircleaner like the ones that came on the L69 HO 305's.
