Still tring to remove the cable from the tranny to the carb. Not sure but I cannot remove it. do I remove the little end off the cable or remove the plastic piece from the carb. Then why replace the end of the cable or buy a new one.

The black plastic piece just unclips off of the "mushroom" style thing on the carb. Slide it forward while holding the carb linkage still.

When you're done, if its adjusted right, the cars gonna shift SO much better. At least mine did. An LG4 that wont shift until 3000 rpm is bad news for me and all those around lol.

Oh, and I dunno if yours is the same (mines an 87 w/LG4) but you MAY not have to remove the trans pan to get the trans end of the cable off. Unbolt the cable from the trans case and gently pull it up and see if you can get some pliers or vice grips to gently hold the throttle valve (coming from the trans) up while you unhook the old cable and rehook the new one. I figured this out AFTER I dropped my pan and broke a pan bolt as well. Hope that helps some.

There is no "kickdown cable" in a 700-R4 setup.

The 700 (aka 4L60 starting in about 1990 or thereabouts) uses a "throttle valve cable".

When I replaced mine I just cut it and used some aggressive persuasion with a cutoff wheel yo remove what was left. New one went in quick that was also ten years ago when I was 22 and less patient
