timing issue?
ok I did a tpi to carb swap and got it fired up today but the exhaust manifolds got hot fast idk why and I can't remember if turning the distributor clockwise is retarding it or the other way around plz help

Re: timing issue?
Assuming its an sbc, clockwise is retard and anti-cw is advance.
Hot manifolds could be retarded timing, or lean mix. Or normal, depends how hot I guess.

Re: timing issue?
it helped some but the problem I'm having is the manifolds get hot fast and unless I keep pressing the gas it won't stay running

As a total guess, bet you've got a vac leak, maybe at the carb base. Get the timing somewhere in the ballpark 10-12 degrees, then get a vac gauge on it and see what it's doing.

Re: timing issue?
The timing was really retarded before (this will heat up the manifolds). Now that your timing is advanced, the idle speed will go up. Solutuion = turn the idle speed down.
