carb stupid

hi everyone,
need some ideas on a cc quadrajet, 1986 camaro. no experience with
q-jets, hardly any with any carb. seems to run ok until secondaries open
up, then engine will die. just flatout quit. in garage, engine acutally
stalls. just got this car to replace my 67 RS/SS, and i would like to get it
running better. should i look to the carb for problems, or is computer bad?

Re: carb stupid

Ok im dealing with somewhat of the same issue of bogging and waiting as well for some light to shine on my question. In what i have researched and you mentioning secondaries it is mentioned that improperly adjusted air valves for the secondaries can cause the car to bog down. How bad of a bog is what im trying to figure out. If you do a search for av adjusting you should find an article on how. Hope it helps! !

Re: carb stupid

thanks for the tip. been playing with the av adjustment, and it's running much better now. was looking into a new carb, intake and distributor, but now i think i will spend
the money on a new power wheelchair i've been looking at. good luck with your carb!

Re: carb stupid

couldn't drive or even get into the 67 anymore. harley vs pickup running stop sign,
truck wins every time. 86 is roomier enough for me to wiggle into and drive, and room
enough for a wheel chair. have always liked the third gen camaros, had a few over
the years.

That's suprising to hear, about the car that is. I have always felt my 67 is "roomier" than my 84. And it's a little higher off the ground. Sorry to hear about the accident, people just don't know how to look for bikes these days. Hope you get better man.

Re: carb stupid

the 86 has a lot more leg room than the 67 did. my right hip and knee are fused, it's like trying to put a 6 foot plank behind the wheel. 4 years now and i'm only getting worse. at least I can enjoy the 86, even put a hitch on it so I can pull my little electric scooter to car shows with me. even tho I'm crippled doesn't mean I have to live like one. a truck couldn't keep me from living, i'm not going to let myself keep me from living.

Re: carb stupid

Sucks to hear man. Has the carb ever been rebuilt? May be time for a reputable carb shop (if there are any more!) to rebuild that bad boy.

Re: carb stupid

Thanks. Been playing with the carb for a while now, and am learning some about it. Finally got the secondaries to work ok, but now the spring for them broke, running as a 2 bbl again. Last car show of the season this weekend, then will be parked for the winter. Will try to find a new av valve spring for it. If the Bank of Linda (my wife) will finance me, some upholstry work and new rims also. She told me new power wheel chair or the car. I can still walk somewhat and have an old scooter for car shows, so the car might win. Or I can try real hard to be extra nice to her, and get everything. She does like to spoil me.

Re: carb stupid

My carb was missing a linkage for when the choke opened up it would hit a little lever on the passenger side of the carb and that would move the lever out of the way so the secondaries would open up. Because I was missing that piece the little lever wouldn't get moved and the secondaries would not open up. They were locked shut by that lever. Past half throttle the motor would bog down because it wasn't getting enough fuel/air.

Just something else for others to look at.
