FLOORED ME! I thought carbed cars were suposed to be ecm free.ARE THERE any stock 3rd gen cars with no ecm?How can I get my cars to have ecm free carbs?

 

As hard as it is to believe, the answer to your question is no. All 3rd gens came with ECMs whether they were carbed or injected. My 1982 SC (First year of 3rd Gen) was practially a base model and it was ECM controlled.

The good new is that you can defeat it pretty easily. You must know that it's against the law to defeat it. Most states really don't care though. Liberal states like California will likely inspect it and require you to leave it intact for registration. I live in Louisiana. My '82 is ECM free. I took it out. The swap will require an aftermarket Carb, Vacuum advance distributer and some way to control TCC lockup on auto cars. It's really very easy to do.

all thirds for sale in the US had ECMs,but some early thirds meant for sale in canada or overseas did not have ECM controlled engines-mentions this in the owners manual of my '82.As mentioned above,super easy to swap to non-ECM controlled carb and distributor-The "CCC"ECM controlled carb has some benefits,but modifications/performance tuning easier with non-CCC version.
